CAT7

Benefits at a glance:

  • Supports speeds up to 10 Gbps over 100 meters of cable.
  • Can handle 40 Gbps over 50 meters and 100 Gbps over 15 meters in some cases.
  • Each pair is individually shielded (foil) and the entire cable has an overall shielding (braided foil).
  • Has a bandwidth of 600 MHz, much higher than 250 MHz in Cat 6.
  • Thicker shielding and insulation make it more durable for long-term use.
  • Backward compatible with Cat 6 and Cat 5 hardware.
  • Potential downsides include it is more expensive then Cat 5 and Cat 6. Also cable is less flexible.
  • Uses GG45 connectors, though it can work with RJ45.

While Cat 7 is a solid choice, for most home users, Cat 6 might be a more cost-effective alternative.
